Roof repairs tend to focus upon specific areas of a roof that needs immediate attention and fixing due to underlying conditions it may be enduring at a specific point in time. It is extremely important that these conditions are attended to, in order to prevent damages to the structural holdings of the house or building or even furniture that sit under the roof which can be extremely expensive to repair.
While there are multiple reasons why your roof may need repairing, roof repairs generally occur as a result of natural impacts including storms, strong winds and high levels of UV, which can cause holes and cracks in tiles and sheets. While we can’t hold back mother nature, it is important to ensure that your roof is fixed immediately after as it can lead to water infiltration that can cause more damages to the roof. This can become a much cheaper option if done early, rather than ignoring it for a significant amount of time, as it can provide an opportunity for the damage to become worse and more serious.
Our 2 main processes that are involved with our roof repair services include roof rebedding and roof repointing.
Roof re-bedding is needed when the old mortar on the roof has cracked and deteriorated to a point of no return as a result of movement from the house, or heat contracted from exposure to the sun and expanding the roof. Therefore, we use a mixture of sand and cement to create a binding substance that can hold down ridge cap tiles. This is extremely important to maintain as if it is not maintained, it can leave the roof unsecured and potentially dangerous as tiles can begin to fall.
The second crucial step in roof repairs is roof re-pointing, which is a second layer that is placed over the top of the bedding. Flexible pointing compounds are used in this coating, which helps the material expand and contract in parallel with the changing weather conditions. This is also used to create a stronger hold on the tile’s position and ultimately seal the roof from dust and wet weather conditions.
